Album Review: Joy Guidry - Amen (2024)
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Glorious odes to ancestral gratitude. Joy Guidry pours her reverence to the great Divine, weaving primordial strands of Texas, Louisiana, and Creole roots into a great record.
The journey through the record is embedded with celestial spirit. Some tracks are instrumental, somber, devout, many with a specter of the bluesy angst of a life lived. Bassoon solos are incredibly haunting, filtered through restraint.
Much to savor on this record. Amen to that.
Prestige tracks: Psalm 138:7, Its Okay To Let Me Go, Members Don't Get Weary, Day by Day, Angels, I Will Always Miss You, Revelations 7:16-17
